The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, popularly known as IBPS is an autonomous body that conducts recruitment examinations for all Public Sector Banks (PSBs) except SBI. Over the years, the institute has provided services related to assessment and testing for different banks through various exams. The institute was constituted in 1984 and is governed by the board of nominees from different government bodies and banks such as RBI, Ministry of Finance, NIBM, IBA, etc. In the same year, the centralised examinations covering all public sector banks started on a limited scale. The process of conducting the exams online started in late 2000. IBPS exams are conducted to recruit employees for PSBs at various levels, such as Probationary Officers, Clerks and Specialist Officers. This article has discussed various IBPS exams in India.

A) PROBATIONARY OFFICER:

  • Exam Duration:Prelims: One hour (60 minutes) Mains: 3 hours 30 minutes

B) CLERK / ASSISTANT:

♦ RBI (Reserve Bank of India)

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is India’s central bank that regulates the entire banking in India. The bank plays an important part in the development strategy of the government of India. The central bank has 30 offices in the state capitals. Every year, RBI conducts examinations for recruitment to various posts. The two most popular exams conducted by the apex bank are RBI Grade B and RBI Assistant.

Level: National Level

Purpose:

RBI Grade B is conducted for recruitment of Grade B Officers in General Cadre, Department of Economic Policy and Research (DEPR), and Department of Statistics and Information Management(DISM)

RBI Assistant exam is conducted to recruit candidates into the Clerical and Assistant cadre for handling day-to-day operations of the bank.
Exam Language: English and Hindi

A) RBI GRADE B:

  • Post name:Gr B (DR)-General/DEPR/DSIM
  • Recruitment stages: Phase I, II and Interview
  • Exam mode: General Cadre: Online.
    DEPR and DSIM: Online and Offline.
  • Exam Duration: Grade B (DR) for General
    Phase I: 120 minutes (with sectional timings)
    Phase II: 90 minutes for each paper

    DEPR/DSIM post:
    Paper 1: 120 minutes
    Paper 2: 180 minutes
    Paper 3: 90 minutes

  • Educational Qualification :Grade B General: Graduation with 60 per cent (50 per cent in case of SC/ST/PwBD)

    DEPR/DSIM: Master& 39;s Degree with 55 per cent and 50 per cent for SC, ST and PwBD candidates

  • Age limit: The age of candidates should be between 21 and 30 years. For MPhil and PhD, the upper age limit will be 32 and 34, respectively. Relaxation in the upper age limit will be provided to candidates belonging to the reserved categories.
  • Number of attempts: There is also capping in the number of attempts. General category candidates who had appeared for six times in the Phase I exam are not eligible to apply. There are no restrictions for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/EWS candidates

B) RBI ASSISTANT:

  • Post name: Recruitment of Assistant
  • Recruitment stages: Preliminary and Mains exam followed by a Language Proficiency Test (LPT)
  • Exam mode: Online
  • Exam Duration: Prelims: 60 minutes (20 minutes allotted to each section) Mains: 135 minutes (With sectional timings)
  • Educational Qualification : Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50 per cent
  • Age limit: The age of candidates should be between 20 and 28 years
